Abstract

A rtificial Intelligence (AI) enables machines to perform tasks requiring human intelligence, such as language understanding, data analysis, pattern recognition, outcome prediction, problem-solving, and decision-making. AI includes techniques like machine learning and expert systems and has revolutionized fields such as medicine, chemistry, infrastructure, and disaster management. However, agriculture has yet to fully exploit AI's potential for research, technology development, and adoption. AI can be crucial for sustainably feeding a global population expected to exceed 10 billion by 2050 amidst climate change and environmental degradation. AI-driven technologies enhance productivity, efficiency, and resilience in agriculture by optimizing resource allocation, predicting risks, and maximizing yields. 1 Precision agriculture and predictive analytics allow stakeholders to analyze extensive data sets on soil health, weather, crop behavior, and market dynamics, improving resource use, reducing waste, and fostering sustainability. AI helps farmers anticipate, detect and mitigate issues like pests, diseases, market fluctuations, and supply chain disruptions. It democratizes agricultural knowledge, providing small-scale farmers with real-time advice, weather forecasts, and market intelligence through AI-powered platforms and mobile apps. Despite its potential, further exploration, technological advancement, and strategic implementation are needed to fully realize AI's benefits in agriculture.
