Arthroscopically Assisted 2-Bundle Anatomical Reduction of Acute Acromioclavicular Joint Separations

Abstract: Immediate anatomical reduction of an acute AC separation with flip-button devices provides satisfactory clinical results at intermediate-term follow-up. This technique should be performed by an experienced arthroscopist; tunnel and button placement are of utmost importance to avoid postoperative failure or loss of reduction.

“…1 However, the clinical results of previous arthroscopically assisted techniques for AC joint reconstruction have been favorable at midterm and long-term follow-up. 3,7 Because concomitant injuries to the shoulder girdle are frequent, any successful AC joint surgery demands complete and accurate diagnosis of all pathology involved, which is possible through the use of such arthroscopic procedures. 8 In addition, surgeons should be aware of the importance of the superior and posterior AC ligaments and should avoid sacrificing their competence in surgical procedures.…”

“…Although some surgeons prefer to use the double-implant technique, 6) our preference is to use the single-implant technique, 13) and it was the technique of choice in this study. Using this method, we were able to produce comparable results without encountering problems, such as suture rupture or recurrent instability.…”
