“…The preoperative active flexion angle, the 100鈥恜oint visual analogue scale (VAS) scores of shoulder pain at rest, during movement and at night, the Constant score of the shoulder joint and the Japan Orthopaedic Surgery Association Shoulder (JOA) score were evaluated before arthroscopy. With respect to the JOA score, 30 points were assigned to pain, 20 points to function, 30 points to range of motion (ROM), five points to radiographic findings and 15 points to joint stability, for a full mark of 100 points . During surgery, the passive flexion angle under anesthesia and the thickness and size of the cuff tears were examined by the surgeons.…”

“…Estimates of the pain score (30 points) and the activities-of-daily-life score (10 points) (40 points in total) using the Japanese Orthopaedic Association shoulder scoring system 4,9 were made because these scores were evaluable by telephone survey. None of these 43 shoulders underwent surgery for any other pathologic condition during the followup period.…”

“…Coleman et al 12 found arthroscopic synovectomy to be an effective treatment for night pain and decreased range of motion in the shoulders of patients on hemodialysis. Midorikawa et al 9 evaluated 29 patients (36 shoulders) with ''dialysis shoulder'' treated by arthroscopic synovectomy and complete debridement of the glenohumeral joint and subacromial bursa. In 12 patients, surgery was performed in the arm with the AV shunt without complications.…”

“…At final follow-up, pain had improved in 94% of the patients, and functional outcome scores had significantly improved. 9 The only study to examine shoulder arthroplasty in patients with ESRD was a report of five transplant patients (two had renal transplants) who had shoulder arthroplasty. 2 Standard total shoulder arthroplasty was performed in both patients with renal transplants and neither patient developed a postoperative complication, infection, or required a revision at final follow-up (32 and 202 months).…”
