Abstract:Much of the evidence supporting a mitochondrial uncoupling function for the homologues of UCPl (e.g. UCP2, UCP3) comes from experiments in which the levels of protein expression have been genetically manipulated. Here we present evidence, from yeast genetically modified to express these proteins, that these experimental manipulations can lead to an uncoupling of oxidative phosphorylation that does not represent a native activity of the protein. We used UCP1, whose native uncoupling activity can be fully inhibi… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
