“…Although metal-resistant strains isolated from contaminated areas have been described ( Amoroso et al, 2001 ; Schmidt et al, 2005 ; Schmidt et al, 2009 ; Polti, Amoroso & Abate, 2007 ; Albarracin et al, 2008 ; Haferburg et al, 2008 ; Siñeriz, Kothe & Abate, 2009 ; Lin et al, 2011 ; El Baz et al, 2015 ), there is limited information about the physiology of Streptomyces in presence of environmental metal pollutants. Due to the naturally high concentrations of certain heavy metals in Chilean northern Patagonia ( Guevara et al, 2004 ; Revenga et al, 2012 ; Hermanns & Biester, 2013 ) product of the highly active seismic and volcanic activity ( Pantoja, Luis Iriarte & Daneri, 2011 ), the ability of Streptomyces sp. H-KF8 to grow in several metal(loid)s supplemented media was evaluated.…”

“…Trace elements exhibit variable biomagnification behaviour in food webs. While mercury, in its organic form, is known to biomagnify (Lavoie et al 2013), other elements such as arsenic and lead show clear biodilution, decreasing in concentration with increased trophic position (Campbell et al 2005a, Cui et al 2011, Revenga et al 2012). Elements such as copper, cadmium, selenium and zinc biomagnify in some but not all food chains (Croteau et al 2005, Cui et al 2011, Cardwell et al 2013, in part depending on baseline concentrations, with lower biomagnification associated with higher baseline concentrations (DeForest et al 2007).…”

“…Defining water quality, sediment quality, and the biological characteristics of an aquatic ecosystem is important, especially in terms of the effects of heavy metals on the aquatic environment. Therefore, heavy metal pollution in the aquatic environment has been studied by numerous authors around the world (e.g., Fernandes et al [2012], Karadede-Akin andÜnlü [2007], Masoud et al [2007], Mishra and Mohanty [2008], Monikh et al [2013], Uysal et al [2009], and Revenga et al [2012]).…”
