Aromatic Azopolymers Produced by Oxidative Coupling of Primary Aromatic Diamines

Abstract: SynopsisResults of the novel polymerization of primary aromatic diamines by oxidative coupling with oxygen as oxidant and the cupric-cuprous redox couple as catalyst are reported. The coupling reaction is generally applicable to aromatic diamines yielding a large variety of linear, high molecular weight polymers containing the oxidatively formed azo linkage as a part of the polymer chain. The oxidative coupling reaction, normally conducted a t room temperature and atmospheric pressure, is catalyzed by a cupric… Show more

“…The catalyzed oxidative coupling of aromatic diamines has been intensively studied for the synthesis of polymers containing stable azo groups (69)(70)(71)(72)(73)(74)(75)(76)(77)(78)(79)(80)(81)(82)(83)(84)(85)(86). For example, aromatic amines have been studied with molecular oxygen in the presence of a Cu + /pyridine catalyst (87).…”
