Armed and prohibited: characteristics of unlawful owners of legally purchased firearms

Abstract: BackgroundA substantial proportion of individuals who lawfully purchase firearms later become unlawful owners ('prohibited firearm owners'), usually following events associated with an increased risk for future violence.
