Moral courage and understanding of its meaning are essential when nurses face ethical conflicts in their practice. This integrative review aimed to explore moral courage in nursing and possible associated individual and organizational factors. A database search in January 2020 identified 1308 scientific articles of which 25 were selected for the review. Inductive analysis with clear steps for defining and synthesizing themes in research reviews revealed three categories concerning moral courage in nursing: definition and descriptions of moral courage, characteristics of the morally courageous nurse, and skills and acts of the morally courageous nurse. Individual and organizational factors, such as positive personal experiences, commitment to ethical principles, supportive work environment and teamwork, were associated with moral courage in nursing, contributing to a more comprehensive description of nurses' moral courage. Findings indicate that in nursing practice, there is a need for promoting multi‐professional collaboration and discussion of ethical dilemmas to provide opportunities to enhance moral courage. Developing care environments in which hierarchy does not inhibit nurses' moral courage seems justified. Further research on moral courage with varying methodologies and multi‐disciplinary and international approaches is needed.

“…First, the profession may need to examine its code of ethics and ethical standards and the philosophical and theoretical basis of their formation with a view to amend them to incorporate virtue-led social work practice, which requires going beyond Kant and Bentham’s dominant influences on social work codes of ethics to include Aristotelian virtues, Hebermas’ communicative action and discourse, ethics of care and faith and spirituality (see Papouli, 2018; Pawar 2014). This article discusses why and how social workers need to engage in social policy practice and how such engagement necessitates political action. The local conditions relating to health, education, housing, employment, gender equality and socioeconomic infrastructure in majority of communities in the Asia Pacific region are largely neglected by professional social workers. To make a difference in those communities and to do justice to their own professional values and principles, social workers need to engage in policy practice in several ways. They may also need to re-examine the profession’s non-political and non-religious neutral stand. It argues that to facilitate their necessary political engagement, social workers need to understand and work with local politics and power structures. Such a stand calls for new thinking and altering some aspects of the nature of social work education and practice in the region.

Each nation has its own ethical views, as 90 percent of these ideas coincide among different peoples, and they are remaining as 10 percent including specific concepts that are determined by the way of life, geographic location, history, religion, etc. Many scientists and philosophers have written about ethics, from antiquity to the present day. It is ethics that makes it possible to highlight the moral values of the people, which are passed on from generation to generation. Absolutely all ethical values are reflected through the language of the people, which conveys them in their proverbs, sayings, phraseological units, and catchphrases. Language can be compared to a piggy bank that accumulates all cultural values: in paremias, in folklore, fiction, poetry, etc. Proverbs and sayings of any nation are the results of their mental activity since their generations. They generalize people's experience in the form of complete judgments, conclusions, teachings and figuratively defined objects, events and phenomena. Models for constructing proverbs and sayings are similar for most people. Their semantic content is also very similar since people's spiritual values in different nationalities for the most part coincide. Based on this, we have the opportunity to explore the specifics of a particular people, expressed in their language linguistic units. Only by mastering the native language, a person becomes the bearer of his own national culture, all linguistic units of which contain national and cultural information.
