Ariane 5 solid rocket booster dynamic behavior with respect to pressure oscillations

Abstract: Numerical simulations are performed to simulate the dynamic behavior of the Ariane 5 Solid Rocket Booster (SRB) excited by internal pressure oscillations. These pressure oscillations have sliding frequencies close to acoustic natural frequencies and changing amplitudes. Because the modal behavior of the booster is also continuously changing during the §ight due to propellant burning, predictions with ¦nite-element (FE) modeling (modal analyses, harmonic and transient responses) are necessary to predict and und… Show more

“…In 2000, the FEM has been used for the validation of an aircraft fuselage structures [13]. In 2011 two FE reduced models have been used to characterize the dynamic behavior of the boosters for the launcher Arian V [14]. The first FE model has been built using only beam elements, while the second FE model includes shell and beam elements for the structure and solid elements for the fuel.…”

“…In reinforced structure analyses, 2D elements are usually used to discretize a plate, while 1D elements are used for stringers [19,20]. In other cases, the 2D elements are also used for stringers [21,22].…”
