Argyrophilic nucleolar organizing region associated protein synthesis in hair root cells of humans at different developmental stages and sex

Abstract: Argyrophilic nucleolar organizing region (AgNORs) associated proteins are important for cell proliferation and various diseases. We investigated AgNOR protein synthesis in hair root cells of males and females at different ages using two-dimensional image analysis. Experiments were performed on 58 healthy male and 24 healthy female volunteers in three groups according to age and sex. Hair root cells obtained from hair follicles were stained with silver. Total AgNOR number/total nuclear number (TAN/TNN) and tota… Show more

“…Morphometric analysis of AgNOR proteins in interphase in cancer cells has been used to identify various benign and malignant lesions, to establish prognoses, and to determine the proliferative activity of cells (Cucer et al, ; Derenzini et al, ; Eroz et al, ). In recent studies, morphometric analysis of AgNOR protein quantity has been also used to evaluate cellular activity in other cell types such as hair root cells of human (Eroz et al, ).…”

“…Therefore, argyrophilic NOR (AgNOR)associated proteins are one of the most reliable methods used to visualize nucleoli in interphase nuclei. 12 Numerous studies have been performed concerning the importance of the interphase quantity of AgNOR in tumor pathology, 13,14 hair root cells of humans, 15,16 developmental stages of Down syndrome in infants, 17 and so on. However, to the best of our knowledge, there are no studies in the literature about the relationship between AgNOR proteins and CO exposure in lung cells.…”

“…Lavezzi et al used the number of AgNOR in the detection of neuronal damage in newborns. Eröz et al stated that the number of AgNOR in hair follicles increased with the effect of growth hormone. In addition to these reports, there is no study showing relationship between AgNOR and atopic dermatitis.…”
