Abstract:Arecoline is a psychoactive alkaloid containing a reduced pyridine nucleus, isolated from Areca catechu L. (Arecaceae) with different biological activities on cardiovascular, digestive, nervous, and endocrine systems. Arecoline is the main toxic component of A. catechu responsible for oral carcinoma.
