Are HIV‐related factors associated with pre‐term delivery in a UK inner city setting?

Abstract: Purpose: In the UK the accepted standards for the management of HIV-positive pregnant women are the British HIV Association Guidelines [1]. The guidelines were updated in 2012 and make reference to conflicting evidence regarding the risk of premature birth; some studies suggest an increased risk of preterm delivery (PTD) in women treated with protease inhibitors (PIs) but others do not. Several of these studies have been conducted in developing countries and not in a setting analogous to UK healthcare. The aim… Show more

“…Gestational age was modeled as a dichotomous variable consisting of infants of <37 weeks gestation and of ≥37 weeks gestation [55]. Univariate analysis revealed that two of the seven CpG loci within RUNX3 , which were associated with smoking during pregnancy, cg04757093 and cg14182690, were significantly or near-significantly associated with gestational age (p = 0.07 and p = 0.01, respectively).…”

“…[36][37][38][39][40][41][42] Likewise, there was substantial evidence of an increased risk of preterm delivery of babies born to HIV-positive women. 43 Additionally, Human Immunodeficiency Virus has been associated with an increased risk of uterine rupture in several studies. According to a study in Thailand, women with HIV had nearly eight times the chance of experiencing prolonged labor than those who are not infected (OR = 7.86; 95% CI = 4.64-13.33).…”
