Regarding nutrition, providing proper food intake can produce optimal physical conditions and provide sufficient energy. This research aimed to prove that combining iron tablets and 1000 mg of vitamin C can increase hemoglobin levels and maximum oxygen volume in female athletes in martial arts. This research used an experimental group design by using a randomized post-test-only control group design. It used 40 female athletes divided into four groups and carried out for 12 weeks. The control group was given a placebo, treatment group one was given iron tablets three times a week, treatment group two was given 1000 mg of vitamin C three times a week, and treatment group three was given a combination of iron tablets and 1000 mg vitamin C. The results show that the mean of hemoglobin levels in the group given iron tablets is 13.23 ± 1.09 g/dL, vitamin C is 12.69 ± 0.89 g/dL, and a combination of iron tablets and vitamin C is 14.50 ± 1.40 g/dL significantly higher (p < 0.05) than the control group, namely 11.93 ± 1.08 g/dL. The average maximum oxygen volume level in the group given iron tablets is 41.24 ± 0.52 ml/Kg/minute, vitamin C is 40.58 ± 0.66 ml/Kg/min, and a combination of iron tablets and vitamin C is 43.33 ± 0.41 ml/Kg/min which is significantly higher (p < 0.05) compare to the control group’s average of 38.33 ± 0.42 ml/Kg/min. It concludes that giving iron and vitamin C tablets to female martial arts athletes can significantly increase hemoglobin levels and maximum oxygen volume. Therefore, iron and vitamin C tablets are proven to contribute to overcoming the problem of anemia in women and are able to increase the cardiovascular capacity of athletes.

Introduction: Due to the lower atmospheric density at high altitudes, the spherical surface of the table tennis ball offers less resistance, requiring higher performance from its players. The athletes' reaction time and movement speed can improve significantly. Objective: This paper studies the changes in the fitness level of Chinese table tennis players under training at high altitudes. These results can serve as a reference to formulate and implement the training strategy of the Chinese table tennis team. Methods: The performance of 12 outstanding table tennis players in the competition was explored. After arriving at the high altitude, the athletes practiced training for four weeks. The athletes' biochemical parameters and heart rates were evaluated before and after training. These data were statistically treated. Results: The heart rate of the athletes in the third week after the experiment was lower than before, with no significant difference (P>0.05). The hematocrit value of table tennis players in training showed a temporary elevation after one week, significantly different from that before the experiment (P<0.05). After two weeks of exercise at a high altitude, the hematocrit value of the athletes remained at a high level (P<0.05). Conclusion: Table tennis players can improve their physical conditions with training at high altitudes, including aerobic and anaerobic properties. High-intensity exercise at high altitudes is also beneficial for improving athletes' strength, speed, and reaction time quality. Women, especially those young and/or pregnant, are at high risk of experiencing an iron deficiency. Low iron stores in the body can affect cognitive function and physical activity in adolescents, but the results of epidemiological studies about the effect of iron deficiency on cognitive function decline and physical activity in adolescents are not consistent. Therefore, it is necessary to review the literature on the relationship between iron deficiency, cognitive function and physical activity in women and girls. This study is an article review using sources from Google Scholar, PubMed and ProQuest database searches from 2014 to 2021. The keywords used were iron deficiency OR anaemia AND adolescent girls OR young women AND activity AND cognitive. By using review criteria, sources were limited to those in English that used a sample of adolescents or young women. In the initial search stage, 63 reviews were obtained and based on the predetermined criteria, 12 reviews were selected to be analysed. Eleven studies examined the relationship between iron deficiency and cognitive decline, there was one study that showed a non-significant relationship between the two; ten studies showed a significant effect of iron deficiency on cognitive decline in the domains of attention tasks, memory tasks and executive function. Three studies showed their effect on decline in adolescents by using different measuring tools. Lack of iron in the body caused a decrease in cognitive function, especially in the domain attention tasks, memory task domains and executive functions domains. In addition, iron deficiency can cause a decrease in physical activity in adolescents due to the low supply of oxygen to the blood and tissues. Therefore, it is necessary to research nutrition intervention programs to improve iron anaemia status in adolescent girls and prevent a decline in cognitive function and physical activity as a result of the impact of iron deficiency.
