Bite wounds occur as a result of bite by an animal or a human. They occur relatively frequently what arises from growing number of pets living together with people and from inadequate interactions betwen the human and the animal. The knowledge about management of these injuries showed by most surgeons is relatively outdated, whereas current literature indicate important changes which occurred in this field. The article presents several aspects concerning epidemiology, classoifiaction, bacteriology and characteristics of the bite wounds to the hand. Based on an actual literature, a detailed rules of the management with these injuries are described. These infromation may be useful in a daily practice of surgeons and doctors od emergency departments who are frequently faced with bite wounds.
