Are all supergravity theories Yang–Mills squared?

Abstract: Using simple symmetry arguments we classify the ungauged D = 4, N = 2 supergravity theories, coupled to both vector and hyper multiplets through homogeneous scalar manifolds, that can be built as the product of N = 2 and N = 0 matter-coupled Yang-Mills gauge theories. This includes all such supergravities with two isolated exceptions: pure supergravity and the T 3 model.

“…The double copy applies to tree-and loop-level amplitudes [12][13][14], as well as classical solutions [15][16][17], and extends earlier string-theory results [18]. Recent success in reformulating large families of Maxwell-Einstein (ME) [19][20][21][22][23] and Yang-Mills-Einstein (YME) supergravities [24][25][26] in the double copy language has prompted the proposal that all theories of gravity could be regarded as double copies of some sort [22] (see also [27]). Generalizing these constructions to gauged ME and YME supergravities constitutes a major step toward establishing this proposal and has the potential for incorporating a large body of supergravity literature into the rapidly developing field of amplitude calculations.…”

“…Effective non-gravitational theories for which a double-copy construction is known include the Dirac-Born-Infeld and the special Galileon theories, as well as the nonlinear sigma model [38,39,40,41,42,43,44]. Double-copy structures have also been identified for various string-theory amplitudes, [45,46,47,48,49,50,51,52,53], within the Cachazo-He-Yuan formalism [54,55,56,57,58], in the context of ambitwistor string theories [59], and at the level of linearized supermultiplets [60,61,62,63,64].…”

“…The present record being at the four point five-loop level for maximal supergravity [15]. Moreover, an elaborate web of theories connected via color-kinematics duality exists that includes matter couplings and various numbers of supersymmetries [16][17][18]. All these results point towards the double copy being a generic property of gravity alluding at a hidden kinematical algebra which has resisted discovery so far.…”
