Architecture in between: connecting between traditional Acehnese house and the current condition of modern Acehnese community

Abstract: The formation of traditional architecture cannot be separated from the local wisdom of the community which is very friendly to environment. In this regard, the notion of ‘locality’ (such as local material, technology and culture) and ‘climate’ are used as a guide to the construction of buildings. The traditional Aceh house, the so-called Acehnese house (rumoh Aceh), that referred to as a type of stilted house is earthquake resistant. The house was also designed to anticipate flood and ocean tide and could prov… Show more

“…The spatial agreement is substantially embodied in a room with a divider or even without any divider. Spatial agreement in houses determines rear houses such as kitchen and service areas as a feminine activity, thus stipulated as women's area (Idham, 2021) (Izziah et al, 2021). It exemplifies spatial agreement with the divider.…”

“…Similarly, Bolouhari, Barbera, and Etessam [21] stated that traditional architecture is one of the most valuable sources of climate values in building design, as it offers lessons that can be applied to modern architecture with respect to, for example, orientation, dense textures, organic and covered pathways, windsurfing, qanats, building form, excavation into the earth, introversion, central courtyards, etc. In another study, Meutia, Sahputra, and Irwansyah [22] mentioned how the classic architectural concepts have evolved to fit the current environment. The purpose of their study was to provide a different approach to preserving Acehnese homes that can be used as a model for modern adaptable housing in terms of both structural and architectural features.…”

“…According to reference [16], current 3D reconstruction technology has produced many promising research results, but there are still many flaws in 3D reconstruction technology due to its limitations and high requirements for environmental equipment and raw materials. In the requirements of modern architecture, reference [17], three-dimensional technology does not simply stay at the interface from the start. Current technology allows for the creation of comprehensive elements in a short amount of time, with simple, quick, and flexible operation.…”
