“…We selected 10 pristine samples from different sequences within a subducted oceanic slab (2 metapelites, 5 metabasites, 3 serpentinites, Supplementary Table 1) to obtain a general picture of sulfur reservoirs. Mineral assemblages suggest that one metapelite reached low blueschistfacies conditions (300-400°C, 1.0-1.5 GPa), whereas the other metapelite (garnet-glaucophane-bearing) reached blueschistfacies conditions (400-500°C, 1.5-2.0 GPa) 27 . Metabasites with oceanic affinity are eclogites and blueschists (lawsonite relic identified) with peak metamorphic conditions clustering around 540°C and 2.5 ± 0.2 GPa 26 .…”

“…Two distinct domains within the South Tian Shan belt, separated by 500 km along strike, expose High Pressure (HP) rocks, which have similar timing and pressure-temperature conditions: the Atbashi range in Kyrgyzstan and the Kebuerte-Kekesu area in China (e.g. Klemd et al, 2005;Simonov et al 2008;Hegner et al 2010;Su et al, 2010;Li et al, 2011;Loury et al, 2018b;Tan et al, 2019). The pressure-temperature-time data are consistent with the end of oceanic subduction in the STS and thus the onset of accretion or collision between Tarim and the CAOB at 315-320 Ma (Hegner et al 2010, Loury et al, 2016.…”

“…The South Tianshan Belt is also considered to be an accretionary complex, which resulted from the subduction of the South Tianshan oceanic plate (Gao et al 1998(Gao et al , 2009aXiao et al 2013). Ophiolitic mélanges, numerous granitic intrusions and an ultrahigh pressure metamorphic belt, crop out along the northern margin of the South Tianshan (Gao and Klemd 2003;Gao et al 2011;Han et al 2011;Long et al 2011;Tan et al 2019;Zhang et al 2007Zhang et al , 2013. The ophiolitic mélange belts discontinuously occur in the Heiyingshan, Kumishi, Kulehu, Baleigong and Guluogou areas (Gao et al 2006;Han et al 2011;Jiang et al 2014;Wang et al 2011;Yang et al 2018).…”

“…The granitoid plutons in the South Tianshan intruded the northern margin of the Tarim Craton and are predominantly composed of syenites, two-mica peraluminous leucogranites and A-type rapakivi granites (Gao et al 2009a;Gou and Zhang 2016;Gou et al 2012Gou et al , 2015Long et al 2008Long et al , 2011. The HP/ UHP metamorphic belt is dominated by foliated metapelites, eclogites, blueschists and marbles (Gao and Klemd 2003;Tan et al 2019;Zhang et al 2007Zhang et al , 2013.…”
