Arbitrary dispersion control of ultrashort optical pulses with acoustic waves

Abstract: Acousto-optic programmable dispersive filters (AOPDF) can compensate in real time for large amounts of group-delay dispersion. This feature can be used in chirped-pulse amplification femtosecond laser chains to compensate adaptively for dispersion. An analytical expression relating the group delay at the output of the AOPDF to the input acoustic signal is obtained with coupled-wave theory in the case of collinear and quasicollinear bulk acousto-optic interactions and also in the case of planar waveguides and o… Show more

“…In addition, an IR highresolution acousto-optic programmable dispersive filter (DAZZLER) [41] is used for higher-order dispersion control. To guarantee a homogeneous pump profile free of hot spots, we relay-image the 10 mm diameter crystal rod in the Nd:YAG power amplifier onto the 10 mm thick KTP crystals in stages 3 and 4.…”

“…Acousto-optical delay lines (AODL) are almost ideal adaptive devices for independent and simultaneous control of both amplitude and phase of spectral components of femtosecond laser pulses [1][2][3][4][5]. An AODL operates on the principle of light diffraction by ultrasound waves in birefrigent crystal.…”

“…This concept proved to be very viable. Ten years later Tournois et al [3,4] proposed the identical technical solution for femtosecond pulse shaping. Now this device (DAZZLER, Fastlite) is widely used in femtosecond laser systems.…”
