ARACE – A New Method for Verbal Decision Analysis

Abstract: ARACE is a new method developed within the framework of Verbal Decision Analysis (VDA). VDA methods work with verbal form of preference elicitation and evaluation of alternatives without resorting to numbers. ARACE is based on the ideas of the VDA method ZAPROS but uses a more flexible approach to inconsistency of the decision-maker's preferences by introducing a special construct of a "quasi-expert." Mismatched preferences of the decision-maker are viewed as preferences of several quasi-experts. The preferenc… Show more

“…Among these methods, we can highlight two, the NORCLASS classifier [37], which is a knowledge-based classification method that aims to classify alternatives (objects) into decision groups, which can not be ordered according to their typicality for a group. The second is the ARACES method [38], which was developed based on ZAPROS, proposing a flexible approach to deal with inconsistencies in the preferences of the decision maker. The method introduces the idea of using an array to represent the dominance relationships between criteria values, and if the decision maker provides an inconsistent input, the process receives the new array.…”

“…Some examples of VDA's classification methods are ORCLASS [3], SAC [8], DIFCLASS [9], and CYCLE [9]. Examples of VDA's ordering methods are PACOM [3], ARACE [10], STEPZAPROS, ZAPROS-LM, ZAPROS III, and ZAPROS III-i [11].…”
