Arabidopsis Genes Involved in Acyl Lipid Metabolism. A 2003 Census of the Candidates, a Study of the Distribution of Expressed Sequence Tags in Organs, and a Web-Based Database

Abstract: The genome of Arabidopsis has been searched for sequences of genes involved in acyl lipid metabolism. Over 600 encoded proteins have been identified, cataloged, and classified according to predicted function, subcellular location, and alternative splicing. At least one-third of these proteins were previously annotated as "unknown function" or with functions unrelated to acyl lipid metabolism; therefore, this study has improved the annotation of over 200 genes. In particular, annotation of the lipolytic enzyme … Show more

“…Expression levels of lipid metabolism genes were compiled according to the Arabidopsis Acyl-Lipid Metabolism database (http://aralip. plantbiology.msu.edu) (Supplemental Data Set 3) (Beisson et al, 2003;Li-Beisson et al, 2013). In cases where more than one transcript hit the same AGI protein in Arabidopsis, transcript with the highest fragments per kilobase of exon per million fragments value (and presumably highest expression level) was assigned as a representative of the AGI group (Supplemental Data Set 4).…”

“…Our study showed that ABI4 directly bound the CE1-like element in the DGAT1 promoter and actively regulated DGAT1 expression in the 0.1-50 medium. We also identified CE1-like elements upstream of genes involved in fatty acid synthesis, TAG biosynthesis, and TAG degradation that are listed in the Arabidopsis lipid gene database (Beisson et al, 2003). Twenty-four genes, including DGAT2, OLEOSIN2, and OLEOSIN4, contained more than one CE1-like element in either strand for 1,500 bp upstream of the start codon (Supplemental Fig.…”

“…The storage oil in seeds mainly consists of triacylglycerol (TAG) synthesized from glycerol-3-P and FAs (Slabas and Fawcett, 1992;Ohlrogge and Browse, 1995;Voelker and Kinney, 2001). In higher plants, biosynthesis of FA and lipids has been well characterized by biochemical and molecular studies (Slabas and Fawcett, 1992;Ohlrogge and Browse, 1995;Harwood, 1996;Beisson et al, 2003). FA is de novo synthesized mainly from acetyl-CoA catalyzed in plastids by a series of enzymes, of which acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACCase) and the FA synthase (FAS) multienzyme complex are the most critical enzymes.…”
