The main subject of this paper are two recent Latin American films (La mujer de los perros by Laura Citarella and Verónica Llinás, 2015, and Los Reyes by Bettina Perut and Iván Osnovikoff, 2018) that centre on street dogs in marginal urban zones of Buenos Aires and Santiago de Chile. It will be argued that in both films exemplary forms of encounter between humans and dogs outside domestic environments can be examined, exploring the alternative ways of conviviality against the backdrop of the multiple layers of shared history between two companion species. In addition to the detailed analysis of exemplary scenes in both films, the concept of the interspecific “contact scene” (as a variation of the “contact zone”, a concept coined by Mary Louise Pratt) is proposed as a possible tool for the analysis of convivial constellations in Latin America.

El presente trabajo quiere examinar los cambios operados en la familia, estructura clave de subsistencia, sociabilidad, afectividad y convivencia, por causa de la migración, tomando el caso de los países del Triángulo Norte de Centroamérica (Guatemala, El Salvador y Honduras) y su desplazamiento hacia los Estados Unidos. Se enfoca en el lapso comprendido entre finales de la década de 1970 e inicios de la década de 1980, período que abrió el ciclo más notable de la migración de los centroamericanos y que configura decididamente su transnacionalismo. Para ello, recurre a los conceptos inequidad y convivialidad no solo para analizar, desde su óptica, la fenomenología referida, sino también para proponer que en la familia subyace una correlación de inequidades y convivialidades en que la movilidad produce nuevos contextos de ese vínculo.

Moving beyond the legal and historical hegemonic definitions of the quilombo, this paper investigates continuities in gendered racial violence in Brazil by evoking the political and poetic of the quilombo. Inspired by the works of the historian and poet Beatriz Nascimento, the multifaceted notion of quilombo is conceptualized as an ongoing praxis of fugitivity and coalition that draws on the interconnectedness of anti-colonial, feminist, and anti-racist struggles. In exploring geopolitical breaks and epistemological ruptures, this paper fosters a necessary conversation between theory and practice by engaging with the living archives of three Afro-Brazilian writers and activists: (i) Beatriz Nascimento’s fundamental contributions on the political, material and symbolic dimensions of quilombo; (ii) the legacy and vision of Marielle Franco focusing on the necessity to ocupar the institutional politics like a growing seed; (iii) the work of Erica Malunguinho and Mandata Quilombo through the praxis of aquilombar the constitutional democracy, based on the alternation in representative power and repossession.
