Aqueous-Phase Synthesis of Copper Nanoparticles Using Organic Nanoparticles: Application of Assembly in Detection of Cr3+

Abstract: A series of novel heterotripodal receptors were synthesized with potential cation binding sites. Their crystal structure revealed the presence of extensive intramolecular as well as intermolecular hydrogen bonding, which allowed them to process into organic nanoparticles (ONPs) in aqueous medium. The ONPs thus synthesized showed extraordinary ability for chromogenic recognition of Cu 2+ ions, with the consequence that they could easily reduce Cu(II) into Cu(0) to produce copper nanocrystals (CuNCs) that grew o… Show more

“…Metallic silver in its various oxidation states has long been recognized as having an inhibitory effect towards many bacterial strains and microorganisms [6]. Due to their wide applications, three broad categories of synthetic routes (physical vapour deposition, ion implantation, or wet chemistry) have been used by various researchers from three decades in the presence and absence of soft and hard templates [7][8][9][10][11][12][13][14][15]. Bakshi in his pioneering feature article proposed that metal nanoparticles would be acted as model air pollutants with a strong tendency for pulmonary surfactants (surface-active and shape-directing stabilizing and/or capping agents) which help to understand their potential threat to the human respiratory system in relation to nanotoxicology [16].…”

“…The same technique has also been used for the preparation of CuNPs (Capek 2004). Controlled current electrolysis using surfactants, thermal reduction, sono-chemical reduction, aquous phase synthesis by using organic nanoparticles, liquid phase plasma reduction method, one-pot synthesis, thermal decomposition and controlled chemical reduction were other methods reported so far (Betancourt-Galindo et al 2014;Dhas et al 1998;Huang et al 2006;Lee et al 2014;Pileni 1997;Saldanha et al 2014;Singh et al 2014;Yang et al 2003).…”

“…Cui et al Singh et al [29] synthesized serial heterotripodal receptors with potential cation binding sites, which could be transformed into organic nanoparticles (ONPs) in aqueous due to the presence of extensive intermolecular and intermolecular hydrogen bonding. The formed ONPs can be used as ligands to prepare Cu NCs due to their peculiar ability for recognition of Cu 2+ , leading to reduction of Cu 2+ to Cu(0) and formation of ONPs@CuNCs hybrid.…”
