Aqueous-Organic Phase Transfer of Gold and Silver Nanoparticles Using Thiol-Modified Oleic Acid

Abstract: Abstract:The handling of metallic nanoparticles often requires their dispersion into several polar and nonpolar solvents. Solid-phase stages or polymer-based ligands are commonly required to complete the transfer. The construction of a thiol ligand based in oleic acid, and its ability to efficiently assist in gold and silver nanoparticle aqueous-organic phase transfer is reported. After the transfer, the particles are completely dispersed in an organic solvent, preserving their diameter and morphology, as conf… Show more

“…In 1707 cm −1 , was found the characteristic band of the carbonyl group present in said fatty acid corresponding to the C=O stretching of the carbonyl. Moreover, in the spectrum for L-cysteine (CYS), we observe in 3163 cm −1 the representative band of the N-H stretch of the amino group, the characteristic vibrations of the thiol group S-H can be observed in 2550 cm −1 , and the C-S link appears in the 635 cm −1 [ 15 , 24 , 25 ]. Finally, the spectrum for the oleic acid and L-cysteine bioconjugate (MAT) was obtained from a solid-state sample.…”

“…The thiol-termination ligand was generated based on the method of López-Millán et al 9 The process of generating gold NPs with thiol-termination ligands is shown in Figure 1. 0.3654 g N,N'-dicyclohexylcarbodiimide was added to a test tube and dissolved in 4 mL of methanol.…”

“…In general, it is easier to synthesis gold NPs in a size and shape controllable process in aqueous solution than in organic solvents 9 and the gold NPs we bought from Sigma-Aldrich are also in aqueous solution. Thanks to previous research about transferring gold NPs from an aqueous solution to organic solvent with thiol ligands, 9,10 it may become possible to transfer gold NPs from aqueous solution based on citrate buffer to refractive index matching liquid based on paraffin oil in this paper. This paper includes five sections.…”

“…Colloidal AuNPs show a narrow peak centred at 524 nm that indicates formation of stable AuNPs with diameter of 27.8 nm according to equation (1) : d=2.99λmax1539 where d (nm) and λ max (nm) are the diameter of nanoparticles and wavelength of absorption peak, respectively. Position and shape of the SPR band depend on the size and form of particles, as well as on the surrounding medium . In the case of AuNPs in aqueous solutions, position at 520–530 nm corresponds to particles of less than 30 nm in diameter.…”
