Aquamicrobium soli sp. nov., a bacterium isolated from a chlorobenzoate-contaminated soil

Abstract: An aerobic, Gram-stain negative, short rod-shaped, asporogenous, non-motile bacterium designated strain NK8 was isolated from a chlorobenzoate contaminated soil in China. Strain NK8 was observed to grow optimally at pH 7.0, 30 °C and in the absence of NaCl in LB medium. The G + C content of the total DNA of strain NK8 was found to be 65.5 mol%. The 16S rRNA gene sequence of strain NK8 showed high similarity to that of Aquamicrobium aerolatum Sa14 (97.3%), followed by Aquamicrobium lusatiense S1 (96.7%) and Mes… Show more

“…are thought to contribute to the degradation of aromatic contaminants: An A. soli sp. NK8T was isolated from chlorobenzoate-contaminated soil (Xu et al, 2017 ), A. terrae was isolated from contaminated soil near a chemical factory (Wu et al, 2014 ), Aquamicrobium strain SK-2 was isolated from sewage sludge and is thought to use carbon from polychlorinated biphenyl to support its growth (Chang et al, 2015 ), and A. defulvii st. W13Z1 was isolated from petroleum-contaminated drill cuttings (Wang et al, 2015 ). Finally, the genus Shinella has a wide range of functional diversity from nitrogen fixation to degradation of recalcitrant pollutants.…”

“…The species Aquamicrobium lusatiense , a member of the family Phyllobacteriaceae of the class Alphaproteobacteria , was reclassified from Defluvibacter lusatiensis ( 1 ) by Kämpfer et al ( 2 ). Interestingly, most species of the genus Aquamicrobium have been isolated from pollutant-loaded environments, such as wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) ( 2 ), activated sewage sludge ( 3 ), biofilters ( 4 ), a crude-oil-contaminated tidal flat ( 5 ), and chlorobenzoate-contaminated soil ( 6 ). The genomic sequence of strain NLF2-7 will provide insight into the sulfur oxidation pathways of Aquamicrobium species.…”

“…The genus Aquamicrobium was established in 1998 [ 21 ]. At the present time, the genus comprises 8 validly published species: A. aerolatum [ 22 ], A. aestuarii [ 23 ], A. ahrensii [ 24 ], A. defluvii [ 21 ], A. lusatiense [ 22 ], A. segne [ 24 ], A. soli [ 25 ] and A. terrae [ 26 ], and a not validly named species: “ A. zhengzhouense ” [ 27 ]. The type strains of this genus were isolated from diverse habitats e.g.…”

“…The type strains of this genus were isolated from diverse habitats e.g. sewage [ 21 ], tidal flat [ 23 ], wastewater-treatment plant [ 22 ], air in a duck shed [ 22 ], biofilter for the treatment of animal rendering waste gas [ 24 ], and contaminated soils [ 25 , 26 ]. The genus Pseudaminobacter was established in 1999 [ 28 ].…”
