The use of Health Impact Assessment (HIA) in the establishment of an urban protected area can enhance the positive impacts and mitigate the negative impacts resulting from its implementation. Brazil hosts some of the most important biodiversity hotspots in the world and the HIA may benefit biodiversity and human health. These areas are commonly created without any preceding survey to assess their impacts on health. Protected areas located in urban zones are essential to maintain environmental balance and quality of life in cities. It promotes positive impacts on health, providing ecosystem services and salutogenic benefits. However, they can generate negative impacts such as the violation of human rights, property speculation, spread of vectorial diseases, and psychosocial stress. Based on the identification of the potential impacts of urban protected areas on health and best practices, this qualitative and exploratory study justifies the use of HIA in urban protected areas, especially in the Brazil, and indicates the main elements for the construction of a methodological approach to contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals and one of its alternatives, the Buen Vivir approach.

Os percursos que originaram este texto compõem a trajetória de pesquisa de campo de doutorado em Desenvolvimento e Meio Ambiente no período 2021-2022 na Reserva Extrativista (Resex) Marinha do Delta do Parnaíba MA/PI. A partir de um processo de pesquisa ativa com crianças parceiras da investigação registramos os modos de habitar das crianças de duas comunidades da Resex. Inspirados teórica e metodologicamente pela antropologia ecológica de Tim Ingold e pela antropologia e sociologia das infâncias apresentamos uma poética da habitação como proposição ética e política desta caminhada com crianças ribeirinhas. A pesquisa foi desenvolvida por meio da observação participante aliada ao uso do desenho, da fotografia e das vivências guiadas pelas crianças. O estudo possibilita reflexões sobre ética na pesquisa, escuta e participação ativa de crianças e educação ambiental.

Unsustainable exploration of natural resources in protected areas has increased in global scale and at accelerated rate in the 21st century, mainly in tropical regions such as South America. This scenario has worried the scientific community due to the risk of biodiversity and ecosystem functions loss, which raises a common and growing sense of the need to inspect and maintaining those areas. In this context, the central objective of this work was to evaluate the management effectiveness of national parks in Peru. For this, scenario matrix methodology was employed, which is based on a questionnaire that is applied to park managers. The methodology establishes possible scenarios based on a set of indicators, which allows evaluating park management effectiveness from unsatisfactory to satisfactory. Most parks (6 or 55%) showed medium management effectiveness, while 45% (5 parks) presented satisfactory management effectiveness. This result is explained by the positive performance of some indicators (expropriation, relationship with the surroundings, protection and inspection programs, as well as management plan). In addition, no specific indicator significantly influenced management effectiveness (no significant difference among the effect of considered indicators). Our results indicate that Peru's national parks are currently well managed. However, some indicators need to be improved, especially for parks that showed medium management effectiveness. Furthermore, this study can help managers to maintain and allocate financial resources in protected areas with greater precision, since scenario matrix methodology allows the identification of low performance indicators.
