Alignment is a very wide subject that can be used to support an organization’s information system. Many authors have dealt with this topic according to various dimensions, including the operational alignment dimension. Our work aims to review approaches that discuss the operational alignment by reducing the gap between business requirement, business process, and software system. Therefore, this study was conducted by a systematic literature review (SLR). In the first step, we gather 1846 papers relative to the subject. In the last step, we filter those articles and select only the most pertinent ones, which leave us with 63 studies to focus on. These primary studies were analyzed according to 9 quality assessment criteria.

The Capability Maturity Model Integration, as part of the software process improvement, has been receiving attention due to the belief of its relevance to the customer satisfaction factor. This research aims at offering software companies in Jordan an overview of Capability Maturity Model Integration methodology and its benefits for the software industry. To study the impact of its implementation on customer satisfaction, through the quality of the software, and provide recommendations on increasing the awareness of Capability Maturity Model Integration, a quantitative study is designed. Four perspectives related to Capability Maturity Model Integration have been studied: the effect of its implementation on customer satisfaction as well as software quality, the effect of software quality on customer satisfaction, and the effect of its implementation on customer satisfaction through the software quality. The results concluded that there is a direct effect of implementing Capability Maturity Model Integration on customer satisfaction and software quality. It also shows that higher software quality positively affects customer satisfaction; i.e. software quality plays a mediation role between the effect of Capability Maturity Model Integration implementation and the customer satisfaction.

Software process assessment is the most important phase in process improvement projects since it enables identification of all process issues that need to be improved. Small and micro software companies suffer from several restrictions that do not allow them to apply standards and best practice guidelines for process assessment. These companies rather implement lightweight assessment methods that can be easily tailored to their needs. This article presents a lightweight inductive process assessment method that can be adapted to specific needs of small companies. The method is based on active participation of company employees and assumes frequent exchange of information during feedback oriented working sessions in the assessed company. The method is implemented in an indigenous micro software company in Serbia for assessing software maintenance process. Four potential improvements were identified, while the best ranked one was implemented. Benefits for the company, as well as implications for practitioners from industry and researchers from academia are discussed.
