An analytical tool that enables experienced researchers and non-experts to analyse participant-created visual data has so far remained underexplored. Existing frameworks to analyse participant-generated visual data tend to use selected theoretical frameworks, guided by participants’ interpretations, to generalise results, test hypotheses, or to identify representational meanings. Analyses of visual data as separate units employ mainly content analysis or (social) semiotic analysis. This article presents a tool for conducting a systematic and transparent analysis of image-based research data by adopting an empiricist and pragmatist approach. We designed a step-by-step procedure to guide researchers individually or in a group to conduct an analysis of such data. Our prototype—which we named Created-Image Data Analysis (CIDA)—was developed by applying design-based research. The CIDA tool consists of five phases, each with an analytical focus and operational questions. Phase 1 covers the basic information; Phase 2 examines the elements and organisation of the visual representation; Phase 3 analyses its logic or cohesion; Phase 4 interprets meaning; and Phase 5 concludes with an evaluation. We applied CIDA to an example of visual data obtained by applying the Mmogo-method in which participants use materials such as clay, dried grass stalks, and beads of different sizes and colours to respond to a researcher-introduced prompt. The CIDA tool is applicable to all static participant-created visual data obtained during research, but it has not yet been tested for analysing moving image-based data. The tool qualifies as heuristic; it offers a systematic procedure to guide an analysis with data-grounded interpretations. The analysis is replicable and open to scrutiny. When the findings from the textual data are considered in combination with the participant-created visual data, the trustworthiness of the interpretations of these datasets is enhanced. This analytical tool enables a rigorous procedure applicable to visual data across subject disciplines and for different research purposes.

The purpose of this study is to to examine the relationship between selfie tourism, memorable tourism experience, hedonic well-being and travelers’ place attachment. This research is a hypothesis testing research conducted in Indonesia. Data was obtained by distributing questionnaires to 200 respondents who have visited various destinations in Indonesia. Respondents are people aged nineteen years and over. Data were tested using Strucural Equation Modeling (SEM) and Statistical Package for the Social Science (SPSS). The results of this study found that there was a positive influence between Selfie Tourism, Memorable Tourism Experience, Hedonic Well-Being, and Place Attachment. Therefore, tourism destination management and the government are advised to design and implement targeted programs that focus on infrastructure development, including well-designed public spaces, aesthetic spaces, and cultural centers, as one of their strategic marketing.

Place attachment is one of the important characteristics of sustainable neighbourhoods. The dynamics of place attachment in deprived neighbourhoods remain under‐researched, especially in Global South contexts. This paper examines how individual socio‐demographic and neighbourhood characteristics influence place attachment in Harare's selected informal settlements, namely Hopley, Hatcliffe Extension, and Epworth Ward 7. These neighbourhoods were purposefully selected as Harare's largest informal settlements. The paper uses survey data collected from randomly sampled participants from the three neighbourhoods. These data were analyzed using binary logistic regression. Based on multivariate analysis, long‐time residents were 2.35 times more likely (OR = 2.35, p < 0.01) to report high place attachment, when compared to newcomers. When compared to renters, owner‐occupiers (OR = 2.91, p < 0.001) had higher odds of reporting high place attachment. Participants with savings were more likely (OR = 1.80, p < 0.05) to report high place attachment when compared with those who do not have savings. Neighbourhood reputation and neighbourhood safety positively influence place attachment in Harare's selected informal settlements. Surprisingly, those living in Epworth Ward 7 (OR = 0.48, p < 0.05) were less likely to report high place attachment. Nonetheless, this study demonstrates that residents of deprived neighbourhoods can develop high place attachment with their residential environments.
