Approaches for calculating alignment and orientation of photoionized open shell atoms

Abstract: A method is proposed for calculating alignment and orientation for open shell atoms after photoionization of an inner shell by relating the open shell dipole matrix elements to those independent of the outer open shell configuration. Thus, an extended and usually non-trivial numerical open shell approach is avoided.
