Approach to the humerus and femur of the paca (Cuniculus paca, Linnaeus 1766)

Abstract

The paca (Cuniculus paca, Linnaeus 1766) is a rodent species, typical of tropical regions, present in much of Brazilian territory and Latin America (Cubas et al., 2014). Feeds on fruit but can consume other vegetables and even insects during periods of food shortages (Dubost & Henry, 2006). It can reach 80cm in length, 12 kg in body mass and 16 years of average lifetime (Cubas et al., 2014). It is importance, in addition to commercial as a protein source, can also take a scientific scope, because the paca has characteristics such as: adequate size, wide geographical distribution, adaptation to varied environments, varied nutrition, among other things, that meet the conditions attributed to the animal model experimental (Andrade et al., 2002).Human occupation in various habitats results in accidents, such as, running over of wild animals, predatory hunting and forest fires, so that wild animals suffer skin, nervous, vascular, muscle and bone traumas. Thus, detailed anatomical knowledge of the species is also necessary for the clinical and surgical treatment of these lesions
