Through a co-occurrence bibliometric and citation analysis of 1.272 texts published in the four Colombian engineering journals available in Scopus between 2014 and 2018, this paper identified that most articles belong to supply chain optimization and logistics and involve work with information that requires minimal laboratory experimentation. Works applying artificial neural networks, clustering, and genetic algorithms are also prominent. Results from researching on biomass analysis on bioenergy and sustainability are more recent and are present to a lesser extent. Most of the reference texts of the articles published come from Spanish-speaking countries and mostly cite DYNA, the European Journal of Operational Research, the Journal of Food Engineering, and Ingeniería e Investigación.

This study investigates a potential relationship between highly-cited scholarly papers and the number of citations received by other papers with which they share a journal issue. Citations received by 3675 articles across 484 issues published in three top information science journals are analyzed based on the condition of whether an article was published in an issue that includes a "highly-cited" paper (two standard deviations above mean number by year). The findings indicate a statistically significant effect of highly-cited papers and citations to other papers in the same journal issue. This finding is relevant to authors and publishers when considering the structure of publications with an "issue" format.

This article provides the results of a citation determinants model for a set of academic engineering texts from Colombia. The model establishes the determinants of the probability that a text receives at least one citation through the relationship among previous citations, journal characteristics, the author and the text. Through a similarity matrix constructed by Latent Semantic Analysis (LSA), a similarity variable has been constructed to capture the fact that the texts have similar titles, abstracts and keywords to the most cited texts. The results show: i) joint significance of the variables selected to characterize the text; ii) direct relationship of the citation with similarity of keywords, published in an IEEE journal, research article, more than one author; and authored by at least one foreign author; and iii) inverse relationship between the probability of citation with the similarity of abstracts, published in 2016 or 2017, and published in a Colombian journal.
