This paper reports on the use of several quantitative analytical approaches, including Rasch analysis, to examine teacher responses to questionnaire items that explore opinions related to knowledge-based teacher, involvement, and expectations in the Teacher Professional Education Program in Indonesia. While many research reports have presented the impact of training-based teacher professional development programs in Indonesia, this paper seeks to improve these results by utilizing Rasch model analysis to identify items with scaled score sequences in all response categories, and make them new explorations and factor confirmation analyzes. The 3-factors scale produced (knowledge-based teacher, teacher involvement, teacher expectations) is proven to be acceptable in terms of confirmatory factor analysis and in terms of analysis of Rasch items. Furthermore, this paper briefly discusses the implications of these results with respect to the capacity of improved instruments to gather information about how teachers see and hope about the Indonesian Teacher Professional Program, including analysis of gender disparity.

Emotional disorders such as anxiety are frequent and are of great importance because of its interference with psychosocial functioning. The study of anxiety-related factors has shown that there are a large number of variables that affect its origin, development, maintenance and alteration. However, appropriate instruments are needed for credible research.Therefore, the validation of one of the most widely used anxiety scale at the international level is of paramount importance. Thus, the purpose of this research was to conduct a validation study of the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) in Portugal. BAI has been analyzed with the rating scale model to evaluate their psychometric quality, for which we have tested the response categories and estimated the parameters of the model, its precision, the degree of data-model fit, the unidimensionality and the absence of differential item functioning. We compared BAI scores with those of other evaluation instruments of anxiety used in Portugal.The sample consists of 1160 adults of both genders (427 men and 733 women) aged 18-82 years (mean age 33.39 years [SD = 11.85]). We used a demographic questionnaire designed for this research, with questions about gender, age, place of residence, ethnicity, educational level, religion, marital status, number of children and occupation. The instruments for measuring anxiety were:Concerning the BAI, the results indicate that its system of four categories is appropriate; that the reliability of the items is very high; that data-model fit is reasonable; that the overall reliability of the people is not excellent, although is adequate, with a value similar to Cronbach's alpha of .79. The results also show that the subjects anxiety level is very low and that most people are below the range of the variable in which the items are located, indicating that it is not designed to measure with high precision people with low levels of anxiety. The analyses also indicate that the measure can be treated as unidimensional.

Comparing indices of responsiveness for the Coma Near‐Coma Scale with and without pain items: An Exploratory study

IntroductionThis study aimed to establish the indices of responsiveness for the Coma/Near‐Coma (CNC) scale without (8 items) and with (10 items) pain test stimuli. A secondary purpose was to examine whether the CNC 8 items and 10 items differ when detecting change in neurobehavioral function.MethodsWe analyzed CNC data from three studies of participants with disorders of consciousness: one observational study and two intervention studies. We generated Rasch person measures using the CNC 8 items and CNC 10 items for each participant at two time points 14 ± 2 days apart using Rasch Measurement Theory. We calculated the distribution‐based minimal clinically important difference (MCID) and minimal detectable change using 95% confidence intervals (MDC95).ResultsWe used the Rasch transformed equal‐interval scale person measures in logits. For the CNC 8 items: Distribution‐based MCID 0.33 SD = 0.41 logits and MDC95 = 1.25 logits. For the CNC 10 items: Distribution‐based MCID 0.33 SD = 0.37 logits and MDC95 = 1.03 logits. Twelve and 13 participants made a change beyond measurement error (MDC95) using the CNC 8‐item and 10‐item scales, respectively.ConclusionOur preliminary evidence supports the clinical and research utility of the CNC 8‐item scale for measuring the responsiveness of neurobehavioral function, and that it demonstrates comparable responsiveness to the CNC 10‐item scale without administering the two pain items. The distribution‐based MCID can be used to evaluate group‐level changes while the MDC95 can support clinical, data‐driven decisions about an individual patient.
