Applying the Mahalanobis–Taguchi System to Vehicle Handling

Abstract: The Mahalanobis-Taguchi system (MTS) is a diagnosis and forecasting method using multivariate data. Mahalanobis distance (MD) is a measure based on correlations between the variables and patterns that can be identified and analyzed with respect to a base or reference group. The MTS is of interest because of its reported accuracy in forecasting using small, correlated data sets. This is the type of data that is encountered with consumer vehicle ratings. MTS enables a reduction in dimensionality and the ability … Show more

“…Therefore, this study determined that the above four changing states would shows that the condition not be changed at all. Restated, the new pattern chosen has the following variables: v 4 , v 5 , v 10 , v 11 , v 20 , and v 21 (Figures 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11).…”

“…More recent research extending MT strategy and combining it with other data mining methods can be found in Huang et al (2009), Su and Hsiao (2009) and Pal and Maiti (2010). Various applications on manufacturing, medical research and other disciplines can be found in the relevant literature (see for example Cudney et al 2006Cudney et al , 2008Das and Datta 2007;Huang and Chen 2005).…”

“…Quantifying customer requirements in a more rigorous manner is another important factor in product development. Multivariate analyses are used to identify the correlation and dependency between system variables (Cudney et al, 2006; Frutos et al, 2004). Conjoint analyses (Green and Rao, 1971) are often used to analyze the utility of products or services from the customer’s point of view.…”
