Process mining offers a set of techniques for gaining data-based insights into business processes from event logs. The literature acknowledges the potential benefits of using process mining techniques in Six Sigma-based process improvement initiatives. However, a guideline that is explicitly dedicated on how process mining can be systematically used in Six Sigma initiatives is lacking. To address this gap, the Process Mining for Six Sigma (PMSS) guideline has been developed to support organizations in systematically using process mining techniques aligned with the DMAIC (Define-Measure-Analyze-Improve-Control) model of Six Sigma. Following a design science research methodology, PMSS and its tool support have been developed iteratively in close collaboration with experts in Six Sigma and process mining, and evaluated by means of focus groups, demonstrations and interviews with industry experts. The results of the evaluations indicate that PMSS is useful as a guideline to support Six Sigma-based process improvement activities. It offers a structured guideline for practitioners by extending the DMAIC-based standard operating procedure. PMSS can help increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of Six Sigma-based process improving efforts. This work extends the body of knowledge in the fields of process mining and Six Sigma, and helps closing the gap between them. Hence, it contributes to the broad field of quality management.

As an emerging country, The Regional Public Service Agency in Indonesia is currently allowed to manage their finances independently. The transformation into a regional public service entity was followed by several consequences, one of which was related to the reporting process to the readiness to be audited by the government external auditor. Information technology is able to facilitate the preparation of financial statements, however, the design of information systems in a bureaucratic environment requires a specific subscription. This design requires defining the architecture of information use. This research resulted in a blueprint with an Enterprise Architecture Planning (EAP) approach as the basis for designing financial information systems. In addition, this research also used the Software Process Improvement (SPI) approach to improve the success of information systems. Information technology becomes a vital requirement considering many demands and obligations of BLUDs in terms of financial reporting and performance. The existence of this Enterprise Architecture Model aims as a bridge between organizational goals and information technology to meet these requirements. The results of this study are blueprints of financial software design, especially for BLUD in the health sector in Indonesia.

The study presents some results of customer paths’ analysis in a shopping mall. Bluetooth-based technology is used to collect data. The event log containing spatiotemporal information is analyzed with process mining. Process mining is a technique that enables one to see the whole process contrary to data-centric methods. The use of process mining can provide a readily-understandable view of the customer paths. We installed iBeacon devices, a Bluetooth-based positioning system, in the shopping mall. During December 2017 and January and February 2018, close to 8000 customer data were captured. We aim to investigate customer behaviors regarding gender by using their paths. We can determine the gender of customers if they go to the men’s bathroom or women’s bathroom. Since the study has a comprehensive scope, we focused on male and female customers’ behaviors. This study shows that male and female customers have different behaviors. Their duration and paths, in general, are not similar. In addition, the study shows that the process mining technique is a viable way to analyze customer behavior using Bluetooth-based technology.
