“…A recent study has also evaluated the impact of increasing the use of premixed IV solutions and increased IV production frequency on IV wastages [20]. Using these strategies, the number of wasted IV doses has been reduced from 2673 (6.14 %) to 675 (1.69 %) per month.…”

“…Premixed medications, when available, can alleviate some of the burden on the pharmacy due to immediate availability for dispensing to patients and less errors to identify during the pharmacist's final check. 1 In light of increased intravenous (IV) medication demand and the need for medications for immediate administration, anticipatory compounding is integral to pharmacy operations. By batching premixes, anticipatory compounding can be a method of preemptively preparing common medications for faster dispensing to patients.…”

“…Jenkins et al looked at operational efficiency and found cost savings when optimizing batching times for patient-specific doses, while Lin et al examined the effects of utilizing premixed medications and found cost savings by having premixes available and by increasing the frequency of batch times. 2,1 Abbasi et al examined how an increase in sterile compounding batch frequency affected pharmaceutical waste based on the cost effects on the pharmacy, finding a reduction in cost after batch frequency was increased. 3 Utilizing such data to optimize efficiency, the decision was made for the pharmacy to batch medications three times a day to be available as premixes for dispensing to patients.…”
