Applying a Hybrid MCDM Model for Six Sigma Project Selection

Abstract: Six Sigma is a project-driven methodology; the projects that provide the maximum financial benefits and other impacts to the organization must be prioritized. Project selection (PS) is a type of multiple criteria decision making (MCDM) problem. In this study, we present a hybrid MCDM model combining the decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL) technique, analytic network process (ANP), and the VIKOR method to evaluate and improve Six Sigma projects for reducing performance gaps in each criteri… Show more

“…For example, these papers are distributed over evaluating intertwined effects in investment project (Altuntas, Dereli 2012, 2015, e-learning programs (Tzeng et al 2007), customers' choice behavior model (Hsu et al 2007), environment assessment (Tseng, Lin 2009;Chen et al 2009Chen et al , 2010, service-industry evaluation (Chen et al 2011;Cheng et al 2012;Liu et al 2013), quality control (Dey et al 2012;Tsai, Hsu 2010;Wang et al 2014), and risk evaluation (Chang, Cheng 2011;Ou Yang et al 2009. On the other hand, many papers have extended DEMATEL technique to consider fuzzy environments (Altuntas et al 2014;Fekri et al 2009;Jeng, Tzeng 2011;Lin, Wu 2004;Hsu et al 2007;Hu et al 2012;Lu et al 2013;Shen, Tzeng 2014) and stochastic DEMATEL (Tamura, Akazawa 2005;Tamura et al 2006).…”

“…More importantly, the HMCDM model extends the evaluation and selection of decision functions to include identification of critical gaps for continuous improvement over the life of decision implementation [24,27,37]. The detailed descriptions, notations, and computational processes can be found in [17,19,26,38].…”

“…However, according to the literature review of this study, most traditional MCDM approaches assume that the preferences between decision variables are independent and put their emphasis on evaluation and selection of decision alternatives without addressing practical means to implement required improvements [15][16][17][18][19][20]. Yet, as discussed previously, EVM application requires a decision approach that addresses these issues.…”
