Applications of the kohonen algorithm in vector quantization

Abstract

The paper deals with the exploitation of the codebook-ordering property of the Kohonen algorithm in vector quantization (VQ. First, the substantial equivalence between the Kohonen algorithm and the generalized-Lloyd algorithm in terms of encoding performance for memoryless VQ is established.
