Applications of Smart Wormlike Micelles

Abstract: The end purpose of formulating smart wormlike micelles is undoubtedly to use them for practical applications. Their micellar structure and reversibly switchable viscoelastic properties offer opportunities for uses where controllable encapsulation and thickening are needed. A series of potential applications are described in this chapter, including biomedicine, cleaning, as electrorheological and photorheological fluids, for templating, and drag reduction, amongst others. However, the only current success stori… Show more

“…The highest values of G ′ are mostly consistent with theoretical predictions for MRF with liquid Newtonian carrier, where particles move freely and the value of storage modulus G ′ is defined by magnetized particles interactions and chain like/columns structures thus indicating to weak restrictions imposed by the WLM matrix, which can be attributed to “living” nature of micellar network. 28–30 …”

“…Micelles and micellar nanostructures play an outstanding role in biological and industrial processes. Therefore, the exploration of micelle-inspired polymer structures represents a fascinating field in polymer chemistry because they can be used as functional nanocompartments and transporters. Typically, such micellar polymer systems are based on the self-assembly of amphiphilic block copolymers.…”

“…Viscoelastic WLM solutions are actively used in a variety of applications, including cosmetics, oil recovery, and so on. Since WLMs are responsive to external conditions, the ability to control or modify the properties of WLM solutions is essential for their successful applications. One way to modify WLM properties is to use hybrid materials obtained by e.g.…”
