Applications of Rhodium and Ruthenium Catalysts for CO Oxidation: an Overview

Abstract: The rhodium (Rh) and ruthenium (Ru) are very important catalytic materials in various oxidation reactions. It is the best monometallic catalyst for oxidation of carbon monoxide (CO) and practically used in residential catalytic converters. These catalysts are active for CO oxidation at a low temperature. The activity of Ru/Rh catalysts is strongly dependent on the surface area, pore volume and textural properties of designed catalysts. It could be used as an ideal candidate not only for automobile industry thr… Show more

“…Following the in situ STEM experiment, we performed CO oxidation on the samples to test their performance as catalysts. In fact, ruthenium, rhodium, and iridium are active catalysts for CO oxidation, which is used as a reference reaction to understand the potential catalytic properties of the samples presented in this work. All samples are supported on γ-Al2O 3 , and the weight loading of PGMs was 0.5%, a result confirmed by ICP-OES. Results are summarized in Figure .…”

“…5 Feng et al 5 comprehensively reviewed CO oxidation performance and reaction mechanisms on platinum (Pt), gold (Au), palladium (Pd), silver (Ag), ruthenium (Ru), rhodium (Rh), and iridium (Ir), and highlighted the need for developing noble metal catalysts that are active for CO oxidation over the range of 100 -250 °C. In a review of CO oxidation on Rh and Ru, Dey et al 6 stated that Rh and Ru-based catalysts are the most effective for CO oxidation at low temperatures.…”

“…Rhodium was included as a representative of the platinum-group noble metals and also due to its extensive catalytic applications in organometallic chemistry. 90 Aluminum as a dopant is noted for its good electrocatalytic activity for the CO 2 RR and is also abundant in nature. 56,74,91 In fact, in our group's recent work, we showed single-atom Al-doped copper as a very promising electrocatalyst for CO 2 electroreduction to C 1 hydrocarbons.…”
