Applications of polyimide coatings: a review

Abstract: Polyimides, high-performance polymers with superior properties such as high temperature stability, resistance to solvents and high strength, can be used in high-tech applications of the aerospace and aviation, medical or electronics industry in different forms (film, fiber, nanofiber, membrane, foam, adhesive or coating). Among these applications, coating has a special place and is used to develop advanced structures having high temperature resistance, flame retardancy and etc. for high tech industries via an … Show more

“…Aromatic polyimides are distinguished by increased thermal stability, low coefficient of linear thermal expansion, and high mechanical and dielectric properties, as well as good radiation and chemical resistance [ 3 , 4 ]. On the basis of PI, films, coatings, varnishes, composites, binders, and foams are obtained [ 5 ]. In addition, they can be spun into fibers with exceptional technological and operational properties [ 6 ].…”

“…2.7 K [6]. In this context, polymers are a viable alternative for the development of materials because several polymers present a wide service temperature range [7,8]. However, they lack resistance to high-energy radiation; consequently, they tend to be degraded with low radiation doses [9].…”

“…The prepared PI nanofibers hold many attractive applications. [17,18] However, till now, the application of PI nanofibers as the stabilizer and supporting matrix for Pd NPs is still not known to the best of our knowledge, even though they provide abundant chelating sites (amide bond) for Pd NPs besides the larger surface area.…”
