Applications of Nano Technology in Civil Engineering

Abstract: This article presents the recent trends in the field of civil engineering with an emphasis on the applications of nano materials and their beneficial effects at nano scale. The role and utilization of nanoparticles such as nano silica, carbon nano tubes, graphene, nano clays, nano CaCO3, nano TiO2, etc., is sharply increasing with the passage of time for achieving high performance composites. These nano materials not only enhance the mechanical properties of the resulting composites but also produce multifunct… Show more

“…Understanding the kind and characteristics of the aggregate used to create concrete is essential in order to forecast how the concrete's characteristic will be in practice. Numerous studies on subjects related to concrete, including self-compacting concrete [8] the incorporation of various natural and synthetic fibers [9,10] nanomaterials [11] and waste materials [12][13][14] have been conducted in the past.…”

“…It is a heterogeneous material consists of fine and coarse aggregate bonded together with a cement paste that hardens over time. In the past, several researches have been carried out on concrete related topics such as self compacting concrete [3,4], incorporation of different natural [5] and artificial fibers [6], nanomaterials [7], waste materials [8][9][10] etc. Apart from water and binder, aggregate also governs the properties of concrete [11].…”
