Abstract

This chapter is to help the readers appreciate the wide range of situations that the concepts and tools presented in this book can be employed in order to get a better insight into their functionings. Most of the examples given below are not real case studies with valid data; however, they are mostly adapted from real situations. Furthermore, the exercise is not to present full-fledged cases but rather to link a number of dots for a specific theme and give references for further studies. Finally, to show the input data and the results of Sefficiency, two templates are available: (a) a free MS-Excel tool at Haie (Sefficiency (Sustainable efficiency) of Water-Energy-Food Entangled Systems 2016) as a supplementary document that has the equations and a simple format to simulate various cases side by side, (b) Appendix B: Sefficiency Template is the compact form used for this book.Note In all the tables of this chapter, grey cells display calculated numbers and the underlined numbers are the final solutions or values. Water Saving MythThere is a misconception between water supply/demand and water saving; often thinking that decreasing water supply will save water for downstream users. This may prove to be incorrect due to the law of water balance and the fact that water outflows have two states (FIW2; Sect. 2.4). This myth can be shown through a simple example using the concepts and symbols developed in this book.
