Application performance and surface morphologies of amino polysiloxanes with different amino values and amino types

Abstract: Amino polysiloxanes (APSs) with different amino values and amino types were synthesized and applied to cotton fabrics. Softening and smoothening properties of the fabrics treated with APSs were investigated and evaluated by measuring wrinkle recovery angles and friction coefficients, and the morphological features of the APSs adsorbed onto cellulose substrate films were characterized by atomic force microscope (AFM). The results indicate that the amino values and amino types of the APSs have a significant impa… Show more

“…The copolymer of polydimethylsiloxane and poly(3-aminopropyl)methylsiloxane with an average molecular weight of 4400 g/mol at 25 °C has a density of 0.96 g/cm 3 and viscosity of 86.4 mPa·s [ 25 ]. Synthesis methods and the use of amino-functional polysiloxanes are presented in papers [ 23 , 26 ]. The authors in [ 26 ] synthesize and characterize amino-functional polysiloxanes containing lateral groups with different numbers of amino groups.…”

“…Synthesis methods and the use of amino-functional polysiloxanes are presented in papers [ 23 , 26 ]. The authors in [ 26 ] synthesize and characterize amino-functional polysiloxanes containing lateral groups with different numbers of amino groups. The change in the amino value of the obtained polymers implies various lengths of polydimethylsiloxane fragments.…”

“…Amino polysiloxane softeners are usually used in textile industry as emulsions. A 10% DPSO emulsion (10 g DPSO emulsified with 5 g fatty alcohol polyoxyethylene ether and 85 g H 2 O) was prepared and its pH was adjusted to about 5.5 by adding HAc during the process of emulsification . Cotton samples were impregnated in a diluted aqueous bath (bath ratio, 10% DPSO emulsion : H 2 O = 1.5 : 100) for about 20 min, padded to wet pick‐up at about 70% on the weight of the dry fibers.…”

“…Six different finishing materials have been used. Three of them are silicon-based, since silicone is an efficient lubricating and soft handle finishing for textile [42][43][44][45]. One is glycerol, which is a sustainable textile fiber softener and is also used for paper coating [34][35][36][37][38][39], another one is wax, as it is a common lubricant used for yarn before knitting [33], and the last one is soap, since it has been used as a finishing material affecting the frictional properties of textiles [41]:…”
