Application of wavestrapping statistical technique to estimate an extreme value in train aerodynamics

Abstract: This paper explores the application of a statistical analysis technique known as 'wavestrapping' to a railway data analysis problem in train aerodynamics. This simulation technique is used to reproduce/reconstruct signals with the same statistical properties of the initial signal(s) and to estimate an extreme value in train aerodynamics. This technique is compared with the method currently used in practice to estimate the peak value of slipstream air speed, according with the European standard EN 14067.
