Application of the sampling strategies in the inspection process

Abstract: The selection of appropriate sample size and point distribution on the measuring surface has been a fundamental problem in the contemporary coordinate metrology. It is usually resolved by the users depending on their instinct or prior experience. As a result, inspection results have to be compromised between accuracy and measurement time. However, to deliver quality products in minimum time, effort, and cost, a reliable and an efficient sampling plan is mandatory. Although there have been a remarkable progress… Show more

“…Product quality generally correlates with many process variables. Model-based self-optimization requires sufficient data regarding these variables, in respect of both quality and distribution, to be able to describe the conditions at the operating point with adequate precision [ 33 ].…”

“…The effectiveness of choosing a particular distribution strategy has been recognised as a major component of the measurement uncertainty [54]. Distribution strategies can be divided into two broad categories: standard distribution strategies and adaptive journal.ump.edu.my/ijame ◄ sampling strategies [55,56,57]. This classification is based on the complexity of the surface of the part.…”

“…With the adaptive distribution strategy, the number of measuring points and their distributions vary according to the complexity and curvature of the measuring surface [57]. This means that complex parts of the surface contain a greater number of points, while simpler regions contain the least number of points [62].…”

“…In the case of CMM inspection, the surfaces must be sampled into sample points or scanning paths. Mian and Al-Ahmari 8 reviewed various aspects of sampling for CMM inspection. In the case of CMM operated in continuous scanning mode, Rajamohan and Shunmugam 9 proposed dominant isoparametric lines as CMM scanning lines.…”
