Application of the Discrete Element Method to Study the Effects of Stream Characteristics on Screening Performance

Abstract: Screening is a key operation in a crushing plant that ensures adequate product quality of aggregates in mineral processing. The screening process can be divided into the two sub-processes of stratification and passage. The stratification process is affected by the relative difference between various properties, such as particle shape, size distribution, and material density. The discrete element method (DEM) is a suitable method for analyzing the interactions between individual particles and between particles … Show more

“…Therefore, it is relatively easy to set the model of the traditional vibrating screen in the discrete element simulation. Many scholars have already done many in-depth studies in these fields [19][20][21]. For the VFFS, the vibration response of each position on the elastic sieve mat is different.…”

“…In the BPM, the mineral grains in a rock sample are represented by rigid spheres bonded at their contacts. This model has many applications from fundamental research on rock mechanics [24] to large-scale applications [25]. Potyondy and Cundall [26] first introduced the parallel BPM, which had a few shortcomings.…”

“…It is affected by the relative difference among various properties such as particle shape, size distribution and material density. Davoodi et al [12] discuss the application of the discrete element method to study the effects of stream characteristics on the screening performance. Discrete element method is a method for analysing the interactions among individual particles and between particles and a screen deck in a controlled environment.…”
