Application of the combined FibroMeter vibration‐controlled transient elastography algorithm in Chinese patients with non‐alcoholic fatty liver disease

Abstract: Liver stiffness measurement alone can confidently exclude significant and advanced fibrosis in NAFLD patients. Using FM VCTE in patients with high liver stiffness can increase the positive predictive value to rule in F2-4 and F3-4.

“…The TE‐M probe showed excellent negative predictive values, but modest PPVs (71.4% in F2‐F4 and 61.0% in F3‐F4). Therefore, in patients with a relatively high liver stiffness, the combination of the TE‐M probe with FibroMeter vibration‐controlled TE achieved greater accuracy in diagnosing AF than did TE alone (PPVs from 71.4% to 84.4% for F2‐F4 and from 61.0% to 88.9% for F3‐F4) . It is noteworthy that the substantial heterogeneity in the population and evaluation endpoints may lead to variations in the diagnostic accuracy (Supporting Table ).…”

“…The FibroMeter tests include the FibroMeter VCTE which is a combination of blood markers with the Fibroscan result (Echosens) in a single formula (Table S1 and Table ). Recent studies have demonstrated that the combinatory FibroMeter VCTE outperforms blood fibrosis tests and Fibroscan for the non‐invasive evaluation of liver fibrosis in NAFLD . Used as second‐line procedure after blood fibrosis tests or Fibroscan, the FibroMeter VCTE decreases the rate of patients with undetermined diagnosis by twofold …”

“…Independent studies have confirmed the good diagnostic accuracy of the FibroMeter NAFLD (Table ). Some of these works showed the FibroMeter NAFLD to have an accuracy comparable to the simple blood fibrosis tests FIB4 and NAFLD fibrosis score (NFS), whereas other works found the FibroMeter NAFLD to be significantly more accurate . The FibroMeter V2G , developed for the diagnosis of significant fibrosis in chronic hepatitis C, includes both indirect (AST, urea, platelets, prothrombin time) and direct (hyaluronate, alpha2‐macroglobulin) markers of liver fibrosis.…”
