Application of the Bifunctional Switch-Type Cryptand Ion Chromatographic Stationary Phase for Ion Separation

Abstract: Poly(styrene/divinylbenzene) resin with cryptand 22 as an anchoring group was synthesized and applied in ion chromatography as a packing material for separations of organic anions as well as cations. The cryptand can not only form strong complexes with metal cations, but it has also shown a remarkable complexing ability with organic anions after protonation at pH < 7. The protonated cryptand resin has been applied as an anion exchanger to successfully separate some organic carboxylate anions including HCOO", C… Show more

“…Further more, the larger frequency response for the adsorbate with a greater molar mass may be attributed to the less hydrophilic property of the larger molecule, which results in the stronger adsorption of the larger molecule onto the organic adsorbent. 6 The steric effect of organic isomers was also investi gated. The C60-crown ether coated crystal PZ detector for various isomers of primary butylamines (RNH 2 ) was observed to be in the following order: n-butylamine > sec-butylamine > tert-butylamine (Fig.…”

“…5 " 6 Because of their selectivity, crown ethers can po tentially be applied as coating adsorbents onto piezoelectric crystal surfaces to adsorb and detect metal ions and polar or ganic molecules in solutions. Piezoelectric crystals, e.g., quartz and PLZT (Pb,La,Zr,TiOx), are well known to be sensi tive to pressure on their surfaces.…”
