Application of Taguchi technique to optimize the gma welding parameters and study of fracture mode characterization of AISI 304H welded joints

Abstract: This research article is focusing on the optimization of different welding process parameters which affect the weldability of stainless steel (AISI) 304H, Taguchi technique was used to optimize the welding parameters and the fracture mode characterization was studied. A number of experiments have been conducted. L9 orthogonal array (OA) (3×3) was applied. Analysis of variance ( ANOVA) and signal to noise ratio (SNR) was applied to determine the effect of different welding parameters such as welding current, wi… Show more

“…An efficient neural network based prediction tool was developed to approximate the mechanical properties of weldments without performing the experiments, outputting values predicted for the given input values. Rizvi [11] optimized different welding process parameters which affect the weldability of stainless steel (AISI) 304H through Taguchi techniques by L9 orthogonal array and also studied the fracture mode characterization. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) and signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) were applied to determine the effect of welding current, wire feed speed, and gas flow rate on mechanical, microstructure properties of SS304H.…”

“…One of the most widely used methods to solve this problem is the Taguchi technique. It is effective for various welding technologies, investigating the effect of process parameters on weld quality in terms of weld bead geometry and mechanical properties [4,5]. Again, the effect of influential welding parameters depends largely on several factors such as material type, joint type, as well as welding process involved and has to be researched separately for each new component, material as well as for welding process [6].…”
