[Purpose] The purpose of this study was to investigate the differential effects of fixation of the thoracolumbar junction on the activity of the thoracic and lumbar muscle groups with and without the abdominal drawing-in maneuver (ADIM). [Subjects and Methods] The participants were 40 healthy adults. During trunk extension, thoracic and lumbar muscle activities were assessed using surface electromyography when fixing the pelvic and popliteal areas and the thoracolumbar junction, with and without the ADIM. [Results] The activity of the thoracic extensors at the T9 level applying thoracolumbar fixation with ADIM was significantly higher than with only pelvic fixation or pelvic fixation with ADIM during prone trunk extension. However, the activity of the lumbar extensors at the L3 level with pelvic fixation alone, without ADIM, was significantly higher than pelvic fixation with ADIM or additional thoracolumbar fixation with ADIM during prone trunk extension [Conclusion] This study demonstrated that fixation of the thoracolumbar junction with ADIM during trunk extension was more effective at eliciting thoracic extensor and minimising lumbar extensor activity than other conventional fixation methods.

a b s t r a c tThere is a lack of studies regarding EMG temporal analysis during dynamic and complex motor tasks, such as golf swing. The aim of this study is to analyze the EMG onset during the golf swing, by comparing two different threshold methods. Method A threshold was determined using the baseline activity recorded between two maximum voluntary contraction (MVC). Method B threshold was calculated using the mean EMG activity for 1000 ms before the 500 ms prior to the start of the Backswing. Two different clubs were also studied. Three-way repeated measures ANOVA was used to compare methods, muscles and clubs. Two-way mixed Intraclass Correlation Coefficient (ICC) with absolute agreement was used to determine the methods reliability.Club type usage showed no influence in onset detection. Rectus abdominis (RA) showed the higher agreement between methods. Erector spinae (ES), on the other hand, showed a very low agreement, that might be related to postural activity before the swing. External oblique (EO) is the first being activated, at 1295 ms prior impact. There is a similar activation time between right and left muscles sides, although the right EO showed better agreement between methods than left side. Therefore, the algorithms usage is task-and muscle-dependent.

This paper presents a framework for detecting changes in non-linear dynamics for time series based on the theory of KM 2 O-Langevin equations. This paper has two contributions one is to define the pseudo determinacy function that deduces the non-linear dynamics behind the subsequences of the time series data the other is to define the distance of dynamics between the subsequences by the pseudo determinacy function to understand how and when the non-linear dynamics changes. In contrast to the existing methods such as Singular-Spectrum Analysis and Recurrence Quantification Analysis the proposed method can distinguish the difference between a temporal outlier and a change in non-linear dynamics. Moreover, applying the proposed method to the real data, we found the indirect relation between the change in non-linear dynamics and some outer force (the actress in TV commercial or attack by competitors).
