Application of Rescaled Adjusted Partial Sums (Raps) Method in Hydrology – An Overview

Abstract: To describe the behaviour of watercourses, numerous parameters should be considered, such as water flow, depth/water level, velocity, and the amount of deposit in a waterbed. In addition, many other parameters should be analysed to understand the mechanism of specific watercourses. The most typical parameters are those associated with water quality, such as water temperature, and pH value, and temperature, as well as various climate parameters, such as precipitation, evaporation, and insolation, which are visu… Show more

“…Numerous methods of trend analyses have been developed and applied in the literature for assessing possible changes in data series. They range from the simple significance testing of trends to sophisticated techniques such as the rescaled adjusted partial sums (RAPS [27,28]) and the innovative polygon trend analysis (IPTA [29,30]) methods. However, in the last two decades, the very concept of a trend, which lacks definition and reflects an artificial imposition of deterministic thinking into stochastics, has been criticized, along with its statistical testing [31][32][33][34][35] (see also [5], chapter 1).…”

“…The RAPS method can be applied in all research areas but is mostly used to analyze a river flow from a hydrological point of view [3]. This method has quite a wide range of applications, especially in hydrology [4].…”

“…The consistency test using RAPS (rescaled adjusted partial sums) is a test for individual stations (stand-alone stations) [13][14][15]. This consistency test tests inconsistencies between data within the station by detecting shifts in the average value (mean).…”
